Black History Everyday: Happy 78th Birthday Carole Simpson

Carole Simpson 12/7/40, Chicago, IL. Broadcast journalist, news anchor, author, and educator.

Started out in radio then went to television. She was the first black woman to anchor a major network newscast, 1975.

She was the first woman of color to moderate a presidential debate in 1992.

She received the Journalist of the Year Award in 1992 from the National Association of Black Journalists. (NABJ).

She published her autobiography, Newslady in 2010.

She retired from broadcasting in 2006 and began teaching journalism.
