I subscribed to MoviePass an app that allows one to purchase one movie ticket daily for $9.95 a month.  Not that I go to a movie a day, but I could and be subsidized for the ticket price.

MoviePass has been around since 2011 and recently added 500,000 subscribers in less than one month.  The total paid subscribers is now 1.5 million.

They hope to add another 3.1 million by 8/1/2018.

Their stated goal is to disrupt the movie theater goers industry just as Uber has done to the cab industry and Netflix has done to the cable industry.

They also hope that folks do not go to the movies every month for their profit model.  They collect

Here is how it works.  Subscribers pay $9.95 a month and can see a movie a day.  MoviePass then issues a Mastercard debit card that can only be used at MoviePass Theaters, about 91% of all existing movie theaters.

Once you receive your card and download the app, you go to the app and select a movie and time.  You must be within 100 yards of the theater to purchase the ticket.  You then hand your Mastercard debit card to the theater which is then charged the full price.

I have seen a matinee for $5.45 and a full price movie for $12.69.

MoviePass also collects your data and sells it as well.

Some folks have also likened it to the monthly health club model.

I spoke to one person who has had her card since November and saw no movies in November or December and only one movie in January.  Another user saw 10 movies in one month.

I have seen a couple of movies with the pass each month.

What do you think.  Are you using?  How?

Peace, love, joy, gratitude, faith, courage, compassion, and blessings.
