Inventor, draftsman, and patent consultant.

His parents were both slaves.

Married with two children.

In 1876 he drafted a drawing for Alexander Graham Bell to receive a patent for the telephone.

In 1881 he got a patent for “Process of Manufacturing Carbons” used in lightbulbs.

He was a founding member of the Flushing, NY Unitarian Church.
