Rita Frances Dove 8/28/1952 Akron, OH.

Her father, Ray Dove, was the first black chemist to work in the U.S. tire industry.

U.S. Poet Laureate 1993 – 1995, was the first black to hold that title.

Won Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for Thomas and Beulah in 1987.

Married with one child.
