LIFE SANS CAR

I have been a car owner for nearly 40 years and it was my primary form of transportation.

I live in Oakland, California and I loathe driving, particularly in traffic.  My car was totaled when it was parked and no one was in it.  When the insurance paid me I decided not to buy another car.

Between not liking to drive everyday, the costs of insurance maintenance, parking, tickets, etc, for me it’s less of a toll financially and emotionally to be sans car ownership.

Mass transit is my main form of transportation, a combination of bus and BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority, the rail and subway system).  I also use rideshare (Uber and Lyft) and carshare (Gig and Zip)

Today I decided to take an UberPOOL for $2.99 rather than AC Transit for $2.00 with my Clipper card.

I want to check out Moovn, rideshare and Maven, carshare when they become available.

I have had some great networking experiences through UberPOOL through their Ride Pass (unlimited rides in a 30 day period, discounted, $2.99 uberPOOL, $6.99 uberX).

I had my first ride with a dog today.  Previously I have met someone who was born the same year as me, 1957, and who came out at 15.  I also met someone who is working as an HIV/AIDS counselor in the jail and prison systems.

I learned from attending #100Launches by 100 Black Men Bay Area Chapter that an Uber driver networked while driving and successfully pitched to a VC.

The chronicles continue . . .

Peace, love, joy, gratitude, faith, courage, compassion, and blessings.
