Barnes & Noble named the debut novel, No One is Coming to Save Us by Stephanie Powell Watts as one of their “great new writers pick” for 2017.
It’s a Kirkus STARRED review which calls it “[t]he Great Gatsby . . . revived. . .”
Watts is an associate professor of English at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She is the recipient of a Whiting Award, a Pushcart Prize, and the Southern Women’s Writers Award for Emerging Writer of the Year.
She also has a short story collection We Are Taking Only What We Need.
If the title didn’t catch you without being a spoiler, it is the story of pursuing the “American Dream” among blacks in the South. It went on sale 4/4/17. The book is available in print, audio, and e-book. She is also on book tour.
