Oakland–I don’t know how to respond to death announcements in real life or on FaceBook.  Condolences, I will keep you and your family in prayer, I am so sorry, are my standard responses, but I have never been comfortable with them.

My friend Rue Mapp so eloquently announced the passing of her sister by stating the sunrise and sunset dates.  My friend Dan Cohen commented “may her memory be a blessing”.  And there you have it, there is nothing one can do about death, but memories can be a blessing.

And so it is.

Peace, love, gratitude, compassion and blessings.
