Scared, lonely, enduring many years of depression, afraid to live, afraid to die, afraid of the future and self medicating with wine, I began to notice that something was not right.
I first noticed a burning sensation in my toes, then one day I fell.
I could not walk. I was losing weight.
My doctor didn’t know what was wrong.
After being in bed for many weeks, my cousin, who had power of attorney over my health, took one look at me and said, “you’re going to the hospital!”
I was terrified.
They called my doctor who gave me a Valium and I went to the hospital. Five months later, still no diagnosis, I was sent to a specialist who said I had Guillain-Barres Syndrome (GBS) –a disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system.They said if I lived past two weeks, I could recover.
Weighing 80 pounds, unable to walk or eat, being fed from a tube, my doctor prescribed Miranol to help boost my appetite.
After seventeen long months of therapy, relearning how to swallow and chew, I was finally discharged and sent home, still unable to walk or do anything for myself.
Now, a year later, I weigh 160 pounds, am walking with the help of a walker.
I’m researching and studying all I can about cannabis because it saved my life.
